Treadmill Challenge
Members at Cadbury House Hotel, Health Club and Spa will be running round the clock for charity next month.
Members are being invited to take part in a 24 hour treadmill marathon to raise awareness of and money for prostate cancer research and treatment.
The event is being staged to support Run for the Future, an annual 5km run on the Downs in Bristol organised by Bristol Rotary, which raises money for the Bristol Urological Institute Prostate Cancer Charity Appeal.
More than 10,000 men in the UK die from the disease every year, but there is no national screening programme available on the NHS.
Money raised by Run for the Future is currently funding joint research between the BUI at Southmead Hospital and the University of the West of England into earlier diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
Members of the Club, the gym at Cadbury House Hotel, Health Club and Spa, are being asked to cover the 24 hours by volunteering to run for 30 minutes each, starting a 9.00am on Friday, 4 September.
Club Manager, Jason Eaton, says he hopes the whole of the membership will support those who take part.
“The number of men dying from prostate cancer is on the increase and it’s devastating to their families, which is why we’re supporting Run for the Future with this treadmill challenge.
“Our members have an opportunity to make a real difference by sponsoring those who take part – and hopefully they’ll also take part in the event proper on the Downs a fortnight later,” he said.
Cadbury House Hotel, Health Club and Spa is also asking every guest staying at the hotel to put their spare change in special Run for the Future envelopes.
This year’s Run for the Future, which is sponsored by Spire Hospital, takes place at 12 noon on Sunday, 20 September. For further information or to register to take part visit www.runforthefuture.org or ring the Run for the Future Office on 0117 959 6328.
