Carol's Appeal
Carol’s Appeal
TV celebrity Carol Vorderman has made a personal appeal to the people living in the West of England to support this year’s Run for the Future in Bristol in aid of prostate cancer.
Carol, who was receiving a cheque for £5,000 from the Spire Hospital as headline sponsors for the event, will be running for the first time since moving with her family to live in the Bristol area.
The 5km run is organised by Bristol Rotary to raise funds for the BUI Bristol Prostate Cancer Appeal and will be held on the Downs on Sunday, 7 September.
Spire Healthcare, which is one of the leading private hospital providers in the UK, was formed in 2007 from the sale of BUPA Hospitals.
Carol, who originally launched the BUI Prostate Cancer Appeal eight years ago, says Run for the Future is a great opportunity to put something back into the community.
“I’ve taken part in the Great North Run and that’s a great occasion. Run for the Future is an event for the whole of the family and a chance for women to support the men in their lives.
“Sadly more than 10,000 men in the UK die from prostate cancer ever year. I got involved because my agent, John Miles, had it. If we can get men and their families talking about it we can make a real difference.”
Run for the Future has already raised more than £100,000 over the last two years, which is now being used to fund a joint research project between the University of the West of England and the Bristol Urological Institute at Southmead Hospital into the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.
Also among the supporters of Run for the Future 2008 is My Moti, the specialist running shop. In partnership with Cannons Health and Fitness, My Moti is holding a Run registration day outside its shop in Whiteladies Road, Bristol, on Thursday, 14 August. Anyone signing up on the day will have a chance to win a range of special prizes.
For further information, or to take part in the event, visit the website at www.runforthefuture.org or phone the Run for the Future office on 0117 959 6328 for a Registration form.
