£10,000 for Run for the Future 07
The James Tudor Foundation has donated £10,000 to the 2007 Run for the Future in the South West to support research into the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer affects more than 30,000 men in the UK every year and claims the lives of more than 10,000, which is a higher death rate than breast cancer in women.
The 2007 Run for the Future, which was formally launched two weeks ago by TV Presenter Noel Edmonds, will take place in Bristol on Sunday, 16th September and more than 50 runners have already registered to take part!
Event co-ordinator, Ian Beattie, says the 2007 run is a fun event for anyone in the South West whose lives have been touched by prostate cancer. The run is over just 5km and one for the whole family to take part in, from children to grandparents, not just men!
“Run for the Future is about providing hope – for the men who suffer from the disease and for their families. We hope it will become a major regional initiative and eventually we want it to become a national appeal,” said Ian.
Last year’s run raised nearly £63,000 for the Bristol Urological Prostate Cancer Appeal and the organisers hope to double that figure this year.
John Miles, chairman of the BUI Prostate Cancer Appeal, who discovered he had prostate cancer seven years ago, says it’s vital to raise awareness.
“A 50 year old man has a one in 11 chance of being diagnosed with prostate cancer, but it’s a disease that many do not want to talk about. We hope we can raise awareness and encourage men to talk to their GP’s about having a simple diagnostic blood test – it could save their life.”
The James Tudor Foundation is a Bristol based grant-awarding charity that makes gifts and donations to help achieve its charitable objective, the relief of sickness.
